Micronesia is the given name for two thousand islands scattered over more than three million square miles of the Pacific. The eight island groups that form Micronesia are Guam, the Republic of Palau (Belau), the Marianas, Ponhpei, Yap , Truk (Chuuk), the Marshalls and Kosrae.
• These islands are the result of volcanic activity which took place millions of years ago.
• Many of these islands are the summits of huge underwater mountains or rims of sunken volcano craters.
• The seas are inhabited by hundreds of types of hard and soft corals, anemones, colourful sponges, countless varieties of shellfish, sharks, manta rays and pelagics.
• Palau, Guam, Yap and Chuuk are the better known destinations within Micronesia, each with unique diving opportunities.
• Divers worldwide are drawn to Palau's terrific drop-offs & huge shark population, the underwater WW2 wreck museums of Truk, and to Yap, the home to giant manta rays.
• There are ideal sites here for snorkelling.
PALAU
• The tightly clustered Palau archipelago consists of over 200 islands that run roughly North to South covering a distance of around 125 miles. Only eight islands are inhabited, population is 17,235.
